This morning, I was driving by Walgreens and saw a sign that said, “Come in today for your shingles shot.” At first, I thought the sign was talking about shingles on a roof. But, then I realized it was talking about the vaccination for shingles.
I know of people who have had shingles before and hated it. However, I’ve never had it and I don’t have any fear of ever getting it. And, I would never want to get a shot for it. I don’t even get flu shots. I don’t get the flus that go around, and I’m not scared of any epidemic bird or swine flu.
If you want to be like me and not live in fear of sickness and disease, you have to get off of the American merry-go-round of typical diets and diseases. If you can get yourself to follow a wholesome, high-fiber diet that includes whole grains, beans, fresh fruits, and vegetables. You need to just drink plain water. And, you need to only include animal products into your diet sparingly, not as a menu item three times a day.
For the most part, you need to just be following a wholesome, plant-based diet. And, you need to eat according to your actual hunger needs, not a breakfast, lunch, dinner stuff-yourself-according-to-a-chart regimen.
I’m a Mormon and we have a Word of Wisdom that covers the basics of what I believe. I use it as a guide when I hear about all the fad diets. If the fad diet is promoting the high use of animal protein, I ignore it.
And, if a diet says grains or potatoes are bad, I ignore them. If it doesn’t go along with my beliefs, it’s not worth finding out the consequences. By sticking to what I believe, I know that the destroying angel of disease, sickness, and pain will pass me by.
In the beginning, when people try a newer, healthier diet, there is a remote possibility that they could still end up sick. Sometimes, the body cleanses of past damage or genetic problems, which seems like a sickness. But, then they are healthier in the long run by continuing a truly healthy diet.
