My Inspired Beginnings with Starting the Healing Diet
This post is about my inspired beginnings with starting the healing diet. I wouldn’t have started teaching people in the community, if I hadn’t been guided in what to do.
Back in 2003, I was really excited about the vegan diet. I had taken all the classes I could from Tom Rodgers, who can be found at this link. I had tried to do 100% vegan for about four months at the time and was feeling a big improvement in my health, even though I was already healthy before I started.

A 300 mile trip from St. George to Salt Lake City and then 300 miles back used to make me sick before I did the vegan diet.
The things that I noticed were that the goose-bump things on the backs of my arms disappeared, I could go on a 300 mile trip to Salt Lake and back and not get sick, I didn’t get flus that were going around, I had a burst of energy and felt like running even though I’m usually sedentary, and I felt more spiritual.
I was very desirous to help people around me. I would see people at church with arthritis, diabetes, fibromyalgia, and other ailments. And, I wanted to help everyone. But, there didn’t seem to be a way, and people didn’t seem to be open-minded to a new lifestyle of wellness.

Arthritis pain in the hands can be painful. But, this pain is relieved significantly after 1-2 weeks of no animal products of any kind.
So, I prayed about what I could do to help others, that there would somehow be a way to help them. I wanted an opportunity to be able to use the inspiration I felt and the knowledge that I had gained to share with others and help them prevent and reverse disease too.
After I’d been doing the vegan diet for one year, I was just walking in my house and as I came towards the frontroom, I felt an inspiration come over me in the way of a message to my brain and a wonderful feeling in my heart saying, “Teach community ed.”
Now, teaching community education was something that normally would have scared me, but I felt really good about it. And, you are supposed to act on inspiration as soon as you get it if you want the blessing. So, I called and made an appointment.
I was told that if I hurried, they could get me into the Summer 2004 brochure before it was too late. So, in three days time, I got the required three letters of recommendation about my teaching ability, application filled out, and interview.

These are the new four food groups that came out before the pyramid diet, recommended by the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine for the prevention and reversal of disease.
I also got the inspiration to call it the “Healing Diet”, because that is what it is. See the Power Plate of grains, legumes (beans), fruits, and vegetables to the left. There are as many ways to do this diet as there are people doing it.
If you are worried about getting all of your calcium, protein, iron, vitamins and minerals each day, then you should check out the guidelines of the vegetarian starter kit offered at this link.
There are now 5,000 physicians, researchers, scientists, dieticians, and nurses that are a part of this non-profit organization to help people become informed about the truth.
It was very inspiring and satisfying to be able to teach people who were ready to hear what I had to say and even willing to pay. It was awesome. I could actually help people who needed and wanted the information I had to give.
Then, something else amazing happened. One day, I thought about a colorful brochure as you can see on this link. I remembered it from the time that Tom Rodgers had given it to me. I wanted to find it and order 100 copies, so I could hand them out in my classes.
It had pictures of movie stars that had gone vegan and some good information and recipes. I thought that it would be helpful for my classes. However, my house has a lot of stuff in boxes and finding it seemed impossible, like trying to find a needle in a haystack. So, I forgot about that venture.
The next day, I came into the frontroom and sat on the couch. I saw a box that I had on the floor that was full of papers of all kinds and there was a colorful brochure sticking out of it. That was a total miracle, I knew an angel had pulled that one up for me.
It was a different colorful brochure, and I decided I better read it and pay attention. It was also one I’d received from Tom Rodgers, but was about the animal suffering. That brochure, called Why Vegan? is on this link. It’s a pdf and you can view all the pages.
Anyway, I ordered 100 copies and have been giving them out in my classes ever since. My focus for teaching is/was to help people with their health challenges. And, I didn’t realize until five years later why that particular brochure was important.
One day I was inspired with a significant thought; if God cares about a sparrow that falls as emphasized in this story link, surely he cares about all of his creatures. If there are so many animals suffering great cruelty at the hands of humans, surely he is alarmed at how his creations are being treated and would like to help them too.
That was a very inspirational moment for me to realize God’s love. I mean, I knew about the suffering of the animals and cared. It just wasn’t my main focus.
Teaching people about what they can do to overcome their pain and suffering has been very inspirational for me and is where I feel most inspired to put my efforts. I feel deeply happy when I have the opportunity to teach someone who wants to know and is prepared and motivated to listen.
The healing diet is simply to eliminate the animal products that cause the pain and disease. The base are the starches that give you energy such as grains, beans, and starchy vegetables. There are always improvements that can be made like including the healing vegetables and fresh fruits, and drinking pure water. Some people eat mostly or all raw foods and that is healing too.
Of course, it is up to the individual to decide how he/she will follow through on it or not. But, at least people have the choice and freedom to know there is a better way. And, that they can reverse their pain and disease.

What an inspiring story! It has really helped me to understand you better and why you do what you do. Thanks for sharing this, it is really uplifting.
