Snacks are fun. It seems like sometimes you just want to be munching on something tasty. But, you got to also make sure that you are getting good nutrition and not ruining your health with junk.
- Ginger snaps dipped in almond milk – I got a bag of ginger snaps at the store, they are a cookie made with molasses and ginger. Ginger is good for nausea, headaches, and cancer. Molasses is rich in minerals and is an unrefined sweetener. You can make the almond milk yourself using some soaked and drained almonds and following the same procedure as the homemade coconut milk. It’s fun to dip the dry, crunchy cookie in the almond milk bite by bite.
- Sprouted grains bread dipped in kimchi sauce – Kimchi is a Korean version of American yogurt made with cabbage instead of milk. The sauce is spicy and tasty. I had a piece or two of the kimchi cabbage leaves, then dipped pieces of a slice of Ezekiel 4:9 bread in the remaining sauce left in my bowl. Ezekiel 4:9 bread is not made with flour, but with sprouted grains and beans.
- Sliced caracara orange – This is a new type of orange that I’ve tried recently. It looks like an orange on the outside and like a grapefruit on the inside. It’s full of sunshine and nutrition and tastes like the cross between a tangerine and a cherry. I like to cut it in half, then cut each half into 1/2 inch slices. I can bend the peel of each slice backwards and enjoy little segments of juicy orange.
- Cracked almonds, hazelnuts, and walnuts – I was at the store the other day and was able to buy a bag of shelled nuts for .99 a pound, regular $4 a pound. This was an after-Christmas special that I happened to see. I got three bags. Whenever we come into the kitchen, we can crack a few nuts and have a little treat. Raw nuts have healthy omega oils in abundance, lots of fun. Avoid the roasted salted nuts, they promote free radicals and stress the body.
