Standing with Power
I like the scripture story about how one Ammon stood with power against many enemies to protect the flock. It is in Alma 17:27-39 in the Book of Mormon. I learned some important lessons.
Ammon and the servants of King Lamoni were driving the flocks to water. Many Lamanite enemies of the king came to scatter the flocks. The servants murmured, wept exceedingly for fear of being slain by the king for the imminent loss. Ammon was joyful though, because he knew of the power and promises of the Lord for deliverance.
He had the servants gather the flock, while he stood with mighty power astonishing the enemies who could not kill him. He was able to defend himself while they were being slain or having their arms cut off.
This is such an inspiring story and this is what I learned. These are the basic steps to take to conquer challenges:
- You have a big problem.
- You can choose your reaction to it. You can be very depressed or you can be very happy.
- This is an opportunity to overcome your problems with the help of the Lord.
- Take action. The Lord helps those who help themselves, so, you need to look at what you can do and meet your challenges with enthusiasm and faith.
- If you have the Lord on your side, you can have power, miracles, and comfort.
