Determining the Proper Amount of Water to Drink
Determining the proper amount of water to drink is important for your health. If you eat cooked foods of any kind, you definitely need to be drinking H2O so that your body can eliminate many of the cancer-causing substances that are formed in cooked meats or starches.
However, if you eat a lot of watery vegetables and fruits that have natural water built into the food, then you don’t need to worry about drinking as much water. Some people eat a total raw diet and can get away with not drinking water and still enjoying great health.
The average American, consuming the standard American diet (S.A.D.) of processed, refined and fatty animal products, really needs to be drinking about half their weight in ounces to get the proper amount needed for maintaining health. However, if you are exercising, you’ll need to increase the amount to compensate for the amounts lost and needed during exercise.
Here is a list showing the amounts of water in various containers to help you determine how much to to drink:
- 1 gallon = 128 ounces (4 quarts to a gallon)
- 1/2 gallon = 64 ounces
- 1 quart = 32 ounces
- 2 cups = 16 ounces
- 1 cup = 8 ounces
If you are trying to drink 100 ounces because you weigh 200 pounds. Then, you can look at this list and figure out what you would need. You could fill up a gallon of water, then take out a quart of water and add half a cup (128-32=96 96+4=100) .
You would be pretty close to the amount needed for you for a day. Keep this amount of water around you to remind you to drink it while watching a show or working. You don’t want to be running to the bathroom too often, so take a few gulps every 20 minutes.
You could drink one quart and forget about drinking water until you need to go pee, then after that drink another quart. You can figure out if you are drinking the right amount if your pee is pale yellow. However, if you have a dark yellow pee then you are not drinking enough and stressing your kidneys and body.
